# DataShed5 Data Management System Overview

- Data is hosted in a SQL database
- Security and validation built into the SQL database is utilised by DataShed5.
- Viewing data in SQL tables and views through DataShed5.
- Customised tools to view interrogate and enter data using Extensions in DataShed5.

# Linking to the Database

 

The database which DataShed5 is linked to, can be changed in the DataShed5 Administration module by the DataShed5 Administrator.

 

1. Enter the DataShed5 URL. e.g. [training.maxgeo.com](http://training.maxgeo.com)

1. Enter your email and password.

2. Click on** Register Here **if you do not have access granted.

3. If you have been granted access to more than one database, select a database and click **Connect**.

# Hello *Username*

On opening DataShed by default you will land at the View Data screen. You can change this landing screen to a Dashboard or Map by changing the default view in the User Settings in the Hello User menu. You can also set the landing page to the last Table viewed.

In the Hello User menu you can also Disable All Filters, Change your password and in About, view items such as the DataShed5 version you have along with release notes and software licence details.

In this menu you can Log Off. Note closing the browser tab will also log off the session.

There are four different User levels available in DataShed5.

User – view and download data

User Edit - Edit data and process/approve assay batches

User Plus – Edit data and process/ delete/approve assay batches

SysAdmin – Maintain assay data, process/delete/approve assay batches

These security levels are assigned to you by the DataShed5 Administrator and will define what features can be used and which items can be viewed by the user.
