With some assistance from maxgeo, it is possible to set up a custom raster image to be displayed in DS5 in addition to ones included in the standard configuration.

Prepare and supply your raster image to [maxgeo servicedesk](https://servicedesk.maxgeo.com) and request for it to be uploaded to the Mapbox Tiling Service and added to your Map View as a custom layer.

The Mapbox Tiling Service supports rasters being uploaded in 3 different file formats of which two are specific to weather related data.

**GRIB** or GRIdded Binary, is a file format used to store gridded weather data.

**NetCDF** or Network Common Data Form is a self-describing file format that can contain multi-dimensional raster data. This format is commonly used to store weather related data.

**GeoTIFF** (recommended)

Geotiff is the only format used for non-weather data so anything from scanned and georeferenced map images, satellite images and DEMs, etc.

Note the following requirements and advice with regards to streamlining and optimizing the upload process.

- Each *individual* source file must not exceed 20 GB.
- The maximum *combined* total size of all files that compose a tile set source is 50 GB.
- If the total size of all the files that compose a tile set source is greater than 50 GB, MTS will return a response that contains an error property with more details.
- When using MBTiles, use 512 x 512 sized tiles
- The file needs to be georeferenced
- The geotiff needs to be 8-bit depth unsigned integer (RGB: 8x3=24) uint8
- Most Coordinate Reference Systems are supported and the MTS will reproject to Web Mercator during upload.

If you are attempting to upload large TIFFs (multi GBs), here are some ways you can optimize your TIFF before uploading:

- Reproject to Web Mercator EPSG:3857 so the system doesn’t have to
- Set block size to 256x256 pixels
- If compression is needed, use LZW.
- Remove Alpha band, if applicable.
