Welcome to this training session on Importing pXRF Data in DataShed5.
In this video, we’ll guide you through the step-by-step process of importing pXRF sample and assay data from Excel and CSV files. You’ll learn how to create import layouts, review and match fields, and load geochemical data efficiently—for both drillhole and surface samples.
To begin, click “Import Data” from the main menu.
Choose your file format—here, we’re using an Excel file.
Click “+ New Layout” to create a fresh Import Layout.
Then, select “Load File” to open the File Loader window.
For drillhole samples, select “XRFDH Samples.”
If you’re importing point samples, choose “XRF Surface Samples.”
Now, choose the Excel file [00:01:00] and worksheet you’d like to import.
Set a default DataSet and select the appropriate Date Format if needed.
Next, match the fields you want to import.
Any unnecessary fields can be deleted.
Once ready, click “Save Layout,” enter a name, and click “OK.”
To load the data into the buffer, click “Load.”
Review the data carefully. When you’re satisfied, click “Append Data.”
If successful, you’ll see a message confirming the data was appended, and the Import Buffer will clear.
To view your imported samples, click “View Data.”
Expand the “XRF Management” module and select “XRF DH Samples.”
Apply a filter to see the [00:02:00] data you just imported.
To import assay results, select “pXRF File” from the Import File format dropdown.
Then click “+ New Layout” and choose “Load File.”
In the pXRF Import Layout screen, browse to your CSV file.
Remember—pXRF files must be in CSV format.
Next, select the Date Format, Units, Lab Code, and Lab Methods from the dropdown menus.
In the layout table, we’ll automatically try to match key fields like ‘From’ and ‘To’ if their names match.
Unmatched “Required Fields” will appear in blue. You’ll need to review these manually.
It’s okay if not all fields are mapped. When loading the data, only mapped fields [00:03:00] will appear in the buffer.
For elements, you only need to map the first pXRF Element—the importer will detect the rest automatically.
Saving the layout is mandatory before loading.
Click “Save Layout,” enter a name, and click “Save.”
You’ll see a confirmation message: “Saved layout successfully.”
Once the layout is saved, click “Load.” The data will be imported using your configuration.
Keep in mind: any unmatched fields will not be imported.
During import, progress is shown in the Import Data dialog.
Any errors will be flagged in red. If successful, a confirmation message will appear.
Click “Close” to return to DataShed.
[00:04:00] To view the loaded pXRF data, click “View Data,” open the “XRF Management” module, and select “XRF DH Results.”
For point samples, use the “VW XRF Results” table.
Apply filters as needed to view your data.
That’s it! You’ve successfully imported and reviewed pXRF sample and assay data.
