To support growing API integrations and give users more control, DataShed5 [00:00:10] now includes a feature called External Connections.
[00:00:14] You’ll find it under the "Hello User" menu in the top corner.
[00:00:18] This section [00:00:20] allows you to manage your API credentials and linked services.
[00:00:24] If your user account has an mxAPI license assigned through DataShed Admin, you’ll see the mxAPI [00:00:30] Key field.
[00:00:31] If you don’t have a license, this field will remain hidden.
[00:00:34] To rotate your API key, click the green Rotate button.
[00:00:38] You’ll be asked to confirm—because [00:00:40] once rotated, the previous key becomes invalid.
[00:00:44] After confirming, you’ll see a message:
[00:00:47] “API Key successfully rotated. Please copy [00:00:50] this key now. This is the only time it will be displayed and cannot be retrieved later.”
[00:00:55] Click Copy mxAPI Key and save it in a secure location.
[00:00:59] This [00:01:00] key links your user account with the associated database connection, so treat it like a password—never share it.
[00:01:07] The Partner Connection Details section [00:01:10] lets you link DataShed to partner portals like ALS Webtrieve.
[00:01:14] To connect:
[00:01:15] Click the Partner Connection icon.
[00:01:17] Enter your Username and Password, [00:01:20] then click Save.
[00:01:21] If your details are correct, you’ll see a confirmation message and a green tick icon.
[00:01:27] If a yellow warning icon appears, the login [00:01:30] failed—likely due to incorrect credentials.
[00:01:33] Recheck your Username and Password, and try again.
[00:01:36] You can also connect DataShed to QGIS using the built-in [00:01:40] plugin.
[00:01:40] Click the QGIS Plugin icon to download the plugin as a .zip file.
[00:01:45] It’ll go straight to your Downloads folder.
[00:01:48] Make sure to move the file to a [00:01:50] secure location—you’ll need it when installing the plugin in QGIS.
[00:01:55] Once the file is saved, click Close to exit the window.
[00:01:58] And that’s it! [00:02:00] The External Connections feature puts key integration tools right at your fingertips—helping you streamline workflows, boost security, and connect with trusted [00:02:10] partners more efficiently.
