*This guide explains how to manage notifications for background jobs in DataShed5, helping you track progress, resolve errors, and use email alerts effectively. Follow these steps to streamline workflows, stay informed, and maintain a clear view of your data processing tasks—boosting efficiency and reducing downtime.*


In **User Settings**, tick the "**Always Use Job Service For Import**" checkbox to run import jobs through the **Hangfire** "**Job Service**", meaning they will run in the background. **Notifications** will be available in the **Notifications** section in DataShed5. Email notifications will also be sent to the Users Inbox.

The below shows an Import Buffer ready to merge a large dataset.

A popup notification will inform you the job has begun with the job number.

A number indicating the number of notifications is displayed alongside the **Notifications** menu item. Click **Notifications** to open the **Notifications View**.

The **Notifications View** displays each job. There are two icons (highlighted in red). The green circle indicates the job is in progress. This icon will change when the job has completed. The red cross allows the job to be cancelled.

The job number is displayed in the grid.

When the job has completed, the icons will change to an **Eye** and a **Download** icon. The **Eye** icon can be clicked to mark the notification as **Read**. Clicking the **Download** icon will download a file containing error records.

The **Notification** record will be highlighted red if any errors were detected during the loading process.

Record numbers will be updated, as highlighted in the orange rectangle below.

> ℹ️ The Error file format will be the same as the Import file.


Also, a **Notification** email will be sent to the Users Inbox.

Click the **Download** icon to download a file containing the error records.

Click the **Eye** icon to mark the **Notification** as **Read**.

Click the checkbox to the left of the **Notification** record then click the **Trash Can** icon to delete **Notifications**.
