**Symptom:**

1. Upon trying to save changes, the following error was generated:
  1. "The connection to the LeaseControl database has failed" - start at **Troubleshooting 1**.

**Troubleshooting:**

1. If you were trying to enter a new Lease, Agreement, Contact, Project or Account via "Add New":
  1. Exit out of this window and retry - this time only completing the compulsory fields and with* *only standard characters (*standard characters* being letters, numbers, decimals, commas and forward slashes).
    1. If you can save, now populate with the remaining data (including nonstandard characters) and save your changes.
      1. If everything is okay - refer **Cause 1**.
      2. If you still generate this error - refer **Cause 2**.
    2. If entering nonstandard characters is not optional (e.g. the legal ID for a Lease) - refer **Solution 1**.
    3. If you still can't save - refer **Troubleshooting 3**.
  2. If you were not trying to enter a new Lease, Agreement, Contact, Project or ACcount via "Add New" - refer **Troubleshooting 2**.
2. Did you get a error before this one, and have not closed the window inbetween these instances?
  1. If yes - refer **Cause 3**.
  2. If no - refer **Troubleshooting 3**.
3. Exit out of this window and retry - this time completing only the compulsory fields and with only standard characters (*standard characters* being letters, numbers, decimals, commas and forward slashes).
  1. If you can't open the form for completion, or LeaseControl closes - refer **Troubleshooting 4**.
  2. If you're now okay, try entering the remaining fields and saving your changes.
    1. If it works okay - refer **Cause 5**.
    2. If you can't - refer **Troubleshooting 4**.
  3. If you still can't save - refer **Troubleshooting 4**.
4. Exit out of this window and open up a Lease record.
  1. If you can do this succesfully - restart at **Troubleshooting 1.1** and if you end up back here - refer **Troubleshooting 4.2**.
  2. If you can't do this successfully (or are otherwise send here), close the LeaseControl application, wait a minute, then reopen and try again.
    1. If you are okay - refer **Cause 4.**
    2. If you can't open the application due to a connectivity error - refer **Cause 4**.
    3. If it opens, but you are still not okay - refer **Cause 6**.

**Cause:**

1. Some characters have special functions, and these could be interfering with creating the record, however once the record is created they no long pose an issue.
2. One or more of these nonstandard characters is not compatible - refer **Solution 2**.
3. LeaseControl's ordinary operation may have been interfered with by the earlier error - refer **Solution 3**.
4. Connectivity was interrupted by an operation outside of LeaseControl's control - refer **Solution 4** - noting the issue may have been (not limited to):
  1. Network connectivity may be down.
  2. The SQL Server service may have stopped.
  3. User permissions may have been temporarily suspended or affected by an action.
5. Something caused a hiccup. We're not sure what, but you are welcome to send us your error log for investigation.
6. We're not sure of why you're having trouble - refer **Solution 5**.

**Solution:**

1. Enter an alternative Lease ID so that you are able to still record compliance, and submit a ticket for a patch [servicedesk.maxgeo.com](http://servicedesk.maxgeo.com)[ ](mailto:support@maxgeo.com)- noting it is very important you communicate *why* the characters are so important - such as an excerpt of a document identifying it in this manner.
2. Send a screenshot through to [servicedesk.maxgeo.com](http://servicedesk.maxgeo.com) requesting us to review character compatibility.
3. Close this window and retry - ensuring that you follow Troubleshooting, and exit the screen after each error.
4. See your IT for assistance.
5. Contact us at servicedesk.maxgeo.com noting a screenshot and your error log will be required for investigation.
