# Template Management

LogChief Lite allows users with administration rights to create, edit or delete logging templates. Once these templates have been saved, all other devices using LogChief Lite with an internet connection can fetch these changes by selecting the option in the Manage Data page. Users can only select this function if they have no unsynchronised data.

LogChief Lite comes with pre-built templates for Downhole, Point and Production type templates.

## Manage Templates

Select Templates from the main menu to open the Manage Templates page. This page will show all existing logging templates under the three main template types, Downhole, Point and Production. Templates from a main type can be deleted by clicking the trash can in the row of the specific template in the grid. Templates can also be hidden in the logging menu by unchecking the Is_Active box.

![image](media://835d888c-b713-4758-9cdc-6246a97803c1)

Upon selecting a template, the tables included in that template are displayed on the grid. The administrator then has the ability to rearrange the order of the tables, modify the tab names, and remove any table as necessary.

![image-20250311-061354.png](media://1da19dbc-0ddf-4bb7-a3ca-b3eb8362a277)

By clicking on a table listed below the template name, the administrator can edit various grid settings such as:

- **Column Order**: Click and drag the six small white dots to reorder the fields. Moving a row in this way will change the order of the columns displayed in the logging grid.

![image-20251014-013519.png](media://08cd209e-6529-4cfc-b7c2-798c88394a6e)

- **Visible**: select fields to be visible or not visible in the logging grid.
- **Mandatory**: select fields to become mandatory, some fields are already mandatory as set in the master database and cannot be unticked (non-nullable). Record will not save unless mandatory fields are filled in.
- **Default Value**: default values can be entered manually or, for fields with a linked reference table, a default value can be selected from the drop-down list.
- **Reference Column**: This setting controls what is displayed in the dropdown list for the field. You can choose any column from the linked reference table, but the format must be ColumnA,ColumnB with no spaces. For example: Code,Description. Only two columns can be referenced, and they will appear together in the dropdown.
- **Reference Filter**: Dropdown selection available from active/inactive library codes. This filter can be edited here, or codes in library tables within the database can be set as inactive.
- **Column Constraint**: This column allows you to define a rule that the field’s value must meet before the row can be saved. If the entered value does not satisfy the constraint, the row will not save. Only the field that the constraint is applied to can be referenced in the formula. It is not possible to reference other fields or use multiple fields within the same constraint.
- **Formula**: Various formulas for all fields can be created here. Computed formulas can be edited but the edited formula will only be displayed in LGL, whilst the original formula will still take precedence and will be calculated in the database.
- **Hierarchical Field**: This field can be used to define the hierarchical field to filter by, only if it has already been setup in the custom reference table for the field.

![image](media://77bf792a-dfc1-4259-ba06-a544f749ecd9)

Fields referencing tblLIBPerson can be set to automatically populate with the logged-in user’s username by assigning userName() as the default value. For the field to synchronise correctly, the username must exist in tblLIBPerson. If an administrator does not see this option in the dropdown, they should click Refresh Libraries to update the available values.

For date and time fields, use getDate() as the default to automatically populate the current date.

![image-20250311-061503.png](media://517dc782-ee71-41da-b096-b8b28435a897)

Default sampling configurations and QC for sample tables listed in the template can be set by clicking on the icon.

## > Macro (anchor)

Defaults/QC Configurations

The Defaults/QC Configurations page enables Administrator users to set up default values for fields in the sample sheet. Additionally, this page serves as the central hub for creating, editing, and deleting QC policies for the template’s sample sheet.

![image](media://addc1c44-f38a-42ef-abf8-40d2267177ab)

Each sampling configuration field is mandatory and must be selected before the configuration can be saved. Once saved, these defaults will be applied to the template’s sample sheet. Sample ID are made up of the Sample Prefix and Sample ID Start No. such as a Sample ID of TEST123, TEST is the Sample Prefix and 123 is the Sample ID Start No.

![image](media://24df9636-22fe-441f-9098-a45d4215195e)

The QC Policies tab allows users to view and edit existing policies, create new ones, or delete current ones. To create a new policy, click on the plus icon. To delete a policy, use the trash can icon in the corresponding row on the right. Policies can be applied to the max depth or specific intervals, and checkboxes under Duplicates, Blanks, and Standards allow these elements to be included in the policy. Selecting End of Hole applies the policy to the end of the sampled hole. Additionally, there are four Standard ID fields available, which will be inserted sequentially as defined. All edits to existing policies or newly created ones must be saved to ensure they are applied correctly.

Edit Template

To incorporate new tables into the existing template, the administrator should click the icon, which opens the ‘Create New Template’ page.

![image-20250311-062231.png](media://0cd60a32-e13c-45c9-a7df-044d1db23824)

By selecting the icon, the administrator can choose a table from the master database. After selection, the table can be assigned a tab name and a particular order. Once the table(s) are selected and labelled, the administrator can finalize the additions by clicking Submit. The newly added table(s) will then appear in the template and can be edited further using the procedures outlined in Manage Templates. Please note that the template type (DH, PT or Prod) determines the table type that can be included in the template, for example, only downhole tables can be included in a downhole template.

## Add New Template

To create a new logging template, the administrator must select the icon in Manage Templates. This will open the Create New Template page.

![image-20250311-062313.png](media://2cf9857e-891d-4206-8607-c848c18c83a0)

From here the administrator must select the template type and provide a name and description. With the icon, all required tables can be added to this new template. Note that the selection of template type will only display tables of that type. Click on Submit to save the new template. Now the new template can be edited to suit logging requirements.

## **Managing Sample Sheets: Button Functions and Configurations**

To utilize the Sample Sheet logging tab for generating intervals, inserting QAQC samples, and creating Sample IDs sequentially, admin users must ensure that the 'SampleID' field is **not** set as mandatory in the 'LGLiteDHSampling' table within the specific template. This adjustment allows the three buttons in the Sample Sheet logging tab to function correctly, enabling separate processes for interval generation, QC policy insertion, and Sample ID creation. Please note that by applying this method, QAQC samples can **only be inserted against a specified frequency** and not a suffix.

![image-20250311-062359.png](media://fc7a0053-0b96-41e1-be5c-181005ff2904)

![image](media://4a9e75a6-f9e5-4470-8ec8-7c804a822dee)

Conversely, if the 'SampleID' field is checked as mandatory in the 'LGLiteDHSampling' table, the system will allow creating intervals, QC policies, and Sample IDs simultaneously. By clicking the 'Intervals and QC' button, all these elements will be populated in the grid in one go, streamlining the process for users.

Adding a Formula against a Field

To add formulas against a field, go to the Formula column in the table on the Template Manage page. Ensure that field names are enclosed in square brackets [ ], and each expression is wrapped in parentheses ( ). For example: ([Depth_To] - [Depth_From]).

The Computed Columns checkbox specifies if the field is an actual computed field from the MDS and cannot be edited in LogChief Lite.

## Reference Filter Building

In LogChief Lite, the reference filter of any field with a lookup can be edited by users with an Admin role. By default, the reference filter is set to Is_Active = true, which ensures that only active records appear in the dropdown lists. Users with the appropriate DataShed 5 privileges can update the Is_Active column directly within the relevant library table in DataShed 5. Additionally, the Sort_Order values in a library table determine the order in which items appear in these dropdown lists.

Additional columns can be added to the reference libraries to further refine or group the codes. For example, you could add a “Project” column to the tblLIBLithCode table (the library table for lithology codes). Each code can then be assigned a value in this new column, such as a numeric identifier (e.g. 1) or a specific project name (e.g. Drill_Area_1). This additional field can then be referenced in the LogChief Lite filter cell within the Manage Data page, allowing you to filter the dropdown list of codes and descriptions based on the chosen project value.

Editing the reference filter allows Admin users to control which library values are shown for a specific field. To customise the filter, simply click on the reference filter cell. You can either build on the existing default [["Is_Active","=",true]] or remove it entirely to create a new filter from scratch. Filters use standard operators such as =, <>, >, <, >=, <=, as well as logical connectors like “AND”, and “OR”.

Below are a few examples of correctly formatted filters:

- [["Code","=","AC"],"OR",["Code","=","MG"],"OR",["Code","=","SSS"]]
  - Dropdown list will only display codes AC, MG and SSS.
- [["Is_Active","=",true],"AND",["Is_Sulphide","=",true],"AND",["Code","<>","Py"],"AND",["Code","<>","Ga"],"AND",["Code","<>","Cpy"]]
  - Dropdown list will show only active and sulphide codes, excluding Py, Ga, and Cpy.
- [["Group","=","EXPLORATION"]]
  - Filters the list to include only codes belonging to the “Group” column which are “Exploration”.
- [["Is_Active","=",true],"AND",["Sort_Order",">=","1"],"AND",["Sort_Order","<=","5"]]
  - Restricts the list to active entries with a sort order between 1 and 5.
- [["UnitType","=","Length"]]
  - Dropdown list shows only unit codes from the reference table where the UnitType column is set to Length.

![image-20250729-045751.png](media://2853c827-42e6-4ebb-acd9-2fe0990c9e86)

Once your filter is in place, click Save. If there is a problem with the logic, a red bar will appear at the bottom of the screen, indicating that the filter needs to be corrected. In such cases, review the logic and make any necessary adjustments. If you are unsure or continue to experience issues, please submit a support ticket via the maxgeo Support Desk, including the filter you attempted to use and a brief explanation of the result you were expecting.

## Hierarchical Logging

LGL version 1.2.2.0 and onwards allows hierarchical logging within the application. This requires that custom library tables have been created in the database, and that the appropriate primary keys and columns have been setup. If the column you want to filter the field dropdowns against exists in the reference table, then it can be used in the manage templates pages’ hierarchical field for the specific field.

Please note that hierarchical logging in LGL is only applied to children tables and is not backwards compatible between fields. For assistance in setting up your library tables for hierarchical logging, please submit a request to maxgeo through our service desk ticketing system.

![image-20251127-054851.png](media://b144ad46-388a-4326-a6be-37a02094a29f)

# Manage Data

The Manage Data template allows the user to download from and upload to the master database. The Refresh Libraries option refreshes the libraries and any updates in the templates. The Reset Templates option deletes any templates that have been deleted in the Manage Templates page and deletes any tables that have been deleted from existing templates by an admin user. Any data that is unsynchronised will prevent users from selecting this function.

![image-20250311-062530.png](media://a9b8dbb8-8bf2-42ce-acd8-9e35f537e24b)

The icon will allow the user to create a new hole.

The icon will delete all selected holes.

The Search Bar allows users to search within the grid.

Data options of DOWNHOLE, POINT and PRODUCTION can be selected for upload and download. Alongside each option, numbers are displayed which indicate the count of unsynchronized data records specific to that option.

![image-20250311-062645.png](media://d07587e0-2030-4afd-8bd5-9d1a4b0c9b45)

## Download Data

Selecting the icon allows users to select collars from tblDHColl and tblDHCollPlanned to download from the master database. Downloaded data can be seen within the related tables in the Manage Data page, and on the logging templates where the data can be edited, and additional data can be logged.

Users can download data directly from the **DHCollPlanned** table into LogChief Lite. This download process automatically distributes the planned values to the correct tables in the database, ensuring that collar, coordinate and survey information is correctly populated without requiring any manual duplication. Once downloaded, the planned collar information will appear in the DHColl fields, the planned survey values will populate the DHSurv table and the planned coordinates will populate the DHCoordinates table if using MDS 5.

For users on MDS466 databases, planned coordinates will be written to the coordinate fields in DHColl and the planned survey values will be written to the DHSurv table. As long as all required fields are configured in the database and template, the download process will correctly distribute the planned values to the appropriate tables. The DHCoordinates and DHSurv tabs will be included in the standard templates.

Please note that the Primary Keys of downloaded records cannot be changed. Examples of these include [Depth_to], [Depth_From] and [Sample_ID]. Hole_ID and Dataset can be changed in the manage data page.

![image-20250311-062808.png](media://9bc1ddb6-adbd-496f-8a20-3a2c845c0f40)

## Export Data

Users can export logged data from the Manage Data Page. For Downhole, Point and Production Material Movement parent data, users have the option to ‘Export all data to Excel’ and ‘Export selected rows to Excel’. Selecting to export all data to Excel will export all parent records along with all their children table records.

![image](media://4980ef8e-d29b-414e-a424-32e31a4302b9)

To export data from logging table in LogChief Lite, click on the small red arrow against the parent row containing the data you wish to export (e.g. Hole_ID). Then, select the template logging table name from which you want to export the data and click on the 'Export to Excel' button. This will generate an Excel file containing the selected table data.

## > Macro (anchor)

Synchronisation Status

A successful upload/synchronisation to the MDS database will produce a green notification and a green tick in the row/s being uploaded. To check the synchronisation status of individual records, navigate to the expanded table within the parent record. In the grid, look for the 'SyncStatus' field. A value of '0' indicates the record has successfully synchronized or the record has been imported from the MDS, while a value of '1' shows it is pending synchronisation.

![image](media://228eaad1-6467-4d03-b6b4-5b727b031890)

## > Macro (anchor)

Set Resync Status

In order to flag all logged records, including the parent record, to resynchronise, first select the checkbox next to the parent record in the Manage Data page grid and then click the ‘Set Resync Status’ button above the grid on the right and confirm. This action forces all records to be flagged as unsynchronised, regardless of whether they were originally logged locally or downloaded from the database (MDS). Even records that were previously synced or marked as up to date will be marked as needing synchronisation again, which is useful if you suspect data has become out of sync or if you want to force a full re-upload. It is very important to note that flagging all records to resynchronise and upload will overwrite any existing non-primary key data associated with that parent record in the master MDS.

## > Macro (anchor)

Changing of Datasets or IDs

Existing Datasets, Hole IDs, and Site IDs can be modified in the Manage Data page. To update a dataset or ID, click the white pencil icon in the grid rows to open the Edit Record page. From there, users can change the dataset or ID name and save the changes.

Upon updating an ID or Dataset, users must confirm the change, as this process copies the existing logged data into the new Dataset, Hole ID, or Site ID. Synchronization will follow the rules defined in the master MDS. The original Hole/Site ID will remain in the database, and it is the company's responsibility to remove or archive it if necessary.

When a Hole/Site ID is changed:

- The Historic_Hole_ID field will be automatically updated with the original ID.
- A message will be added to the Comments field to log the change, e.g.,
*Hole_ID updated from MAXTEST01 to MAXTEST02 via LogChief Lite.*
- Existing comments do not get overwritten when changing the dataset or Hole/Site ID.

# Logging Templates

The logging menu offers a variety of standard logging templates. To access these, click on a template from the dropdown menu under Downhole, Point or Production categories to open the corresponding logging grid. Administrator users can edit or delete these standard templates. Production Templates are only available if the database has production tables already setup.

From here the user can set the default for all mandatory logging fields. Click on Save once completed.

## QC Policies

LogChief Lite allows the user to select and edit a defined QC policy to be used in the sample sheet. From the drop-down list, select the desired policy. Note that policies can only be created by Administrator users on the Defaults/QC Configurations page within the LGLiteDHSampling grid in the template management page. Once a policy is selected, users can configure Duplicates, Blanks, and Standards based on sample suffix or frequency. Check the boxes for each element to be included and specify whether the QC policy should apply to the maximum depth or specific intervals. Finally, ensure the Apply QC Policy box is ticked before saving the policy.

## Generate Intervals and QC

After setting the QC Policies and Defaults, users can initiate the generation of intervals, addition of QC policies, and creation of SampleIDs separately by using the three buttons. Users have the option to input a starting and ending depth or leave these fields empty to automatically generate intervals up to the maximum depth of the hole. Upon generation, the sampling logging grid will display the samples alongside any selected QC policies, with the QC policies distinctly highlighted in colour. Duplicates, Blanks and Standards can be manually inserted by right-clicking on the desired interval and selecting the mandatory fields.

For more detailed information regarding this, please refer to section ‘Managing Sample Sheets: Button Functions and Configurations’, [https://maxgeo.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/LGL/pages/edit-v2/1991802881#Managing-Sample-Sheets%3A-Button-Functions-and-Configurations](https://maxgeo.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/LGL/pages/edit-v2/1991802881#Managing-Sample-Sheets%3A-Button-Functions-and-Configurations) ”.

The Sample Sheet can then be exported by clicking on the ‘Export all data to Excel’ button .

# Uploading Data

On the Manage Data page, the ‘Upload’ icon enables users to upload any unsynchronized data to DataShed5. Records highlighted in green indicate unsynchronized rows, while those highlighted in orange represent errors or exceptions.

To upload a record, the checkbox in the row must be selected, and then the ‘Upload’ button must be clicked. Upon successful synchronization, a green popup message will appear, a green tick will be displayed in the row, and the row will no longer be highlighted.

Rows highlighted in orange indicate an exception with that record during upload. To view a broad description of the error, click the exclamation icon in the row. Most often, you will get a message like the following:

To investigate further, expand the table section by clicking the small red arrow in the row. This will reveal another exclamation icon next to the table name where the exception occurred; click on the table name to proceed. The table's data grid will be displayed, and the row with the exception will be marked with an exclamation icon on the left. Click this icon to access detailed error information.

From version 1.2.1.0, any exception errors encountered can be corrected in the grid in the Manage Data page. Once the data has been rectified, the record can be uploaded again. Only rows that have been highlighted in the orange colour can be edited in the Manage Data page grid.
