maxgeo uses a secure file transfer protocol (SFTP) for client data transfer. If you are unable to complete the process outlined by this document due to your corporate policies please advise how you will transfer required files to maxgeo.


> ⚠️ **Data on the SFTP will only be held for seven (7) days from date of upload. All files older than seven (7) will be automatically removed**.


maxgeo will provide a key which will need to be stored on your C drive. This key is unique to your company. If you receive an email from us and the key is not attached, please ask your IT department to release the file. The file will be *.ppk


To access the SFTP files one of the following applications are required:

- FileZilla ([https://filezilla-project.org/](https://filezilla-project.org/) )
- WinSCP ([https://winscp.net/eng/download.php](https://winscp.net/eng/download.php) )
- Cyberduck ([https://cyberduck.io/](https://cyberduck.io/) )


For this document we use FileZilla as the example but the other application options set up is similar.


**Accessing the SFTP**

1. Open the installed SFTP application.
2. Under File>Menu and open the Site Manager.

Select the protocol to the SFTP – SSH file transfer protocol.

Enter the below into the Host and leave the port blank

<span style="color: #252423">Select Key file as the Logon Type.</span>

<span style="color: #252423">Enter the username provided by maxgeo (usually your company name)</span>

<span style="color: #252423">Browse and select the client Key (.PPK) file sent by maxgeo.</span>

<span style="color: #252423">Press the Connect button, and you will be connected to the SFTP.</span>

To move files to and from the SFTP site you can drag and drop between the active windows as per the below animation

> ℹ️ Once files are uploaded, please email your maxgeo contact so they can download the files.

**Troubleshooting**

**Could not Connect to server**

If the below error is received:

Contact your IT support to ensure that Posts 21 and 22 are not being blocked on your local machine or through your company firewall.
